Johann Chua has enjoyed a remarkable 2025, highlighted by becoming a two-time Reyes Cup Champion and snapping off the Dubai Knightshot Open title in July. His impressive run builds on a strong foundation from previous years, including triumph at the 2024 Hanoi Open, where he emerged victorious in a fiercely competitive field, as well as semi-final and final appearances at the 2024 World Pool Championship and European Open, respectively. Earlier in his career, he claimed his maiden WNT ranking title by defeating Wu Sun Lin at the Zen + Yuan8 Open in China, cementing his status as one of the tour’s most consistent and formidable players.

Chua also made waves in 2023 by partnering with James Aranas to win the Philippines’ record-breaking fourth World Cup of Pool title, further solidifying his legacy as one of the sport’s brightest talents.

The Philippines Open Pool Championship brings a World Nineball Tour Major to one of pool’s most passionate homes. Launched in 2025 at Gateway Mall in Quezon City, it gives Filipino players the opportunity to compete against international opposition in front of their home supporters.

The inaugural tournament used a 128-player straight-knockout draw, making every match an elimination contest. David Alcaide became its first champion, winning seven matches and defeating Arseni Sevastyanov in the final to establish the event’s first benchmark.

The second edition returns to Gateway Mall from 20–24 October 2026, beginning two days after the Reyes Cup finishes in nearby Makati. Alcaide returns to defend his title as the focus shifts from team competition to the pursuit of an individual Major. The semi-finals and final take place on 24 October.
